Mare Island was decommissioned by the Navy in 1996. It is an historic center for maritime activity on SF Bay that is undergoing transformation and regeneration.

Another location on the Bay undergoing an extreme makeover, Treasure Island is the site of a bold plan, turning the island into "a world-class city-within-a-city." Ferry service and an established Marina are integral to this vision.

Data collection from our oceans is increasingly critical: new and more useful ways of doing this have emerged.
